The – often monumental – sculptures of Nadia Naveau arise from an immense imaginary database of art-historical visual material. Besides eclectic influences from her everyday environment, there are also references to be found from classical and modern masters such as Bernini or Brâncuși, or painters such as De Chirico and Guston. Naveau’s image database is formed by very different movements; ranging from renaissance and baroque to modernism and contemporary pop culture. Art-historical references and formal properties of key works, often mixed with recognizable popular figures, are the most important source of inspiration, in which – not infrequently – details give shape to completely new images.
